Keeping on top of the washing and drying for all the children was proving to be a huge feet for the nuns who were washing all the clothes by hand. Particularly when the downpours meant the clothes couldn’t be dried outside all the time.
To solve the problem industrial washing machines were brought in for the nuns, a huge supply of soap powder to use with them and a purpose built drying area outside with a roof covering. This allows the clothes to dry naturally in the air without getting wet in the downpours.
